Team Sportswear Branding: Comparing Embroidery, Screen Printing and Heat Transfer
A branding method is not selected by budget alone. Artwork lines, colour count, fabric stretch, intended placement and care requirements can all affect feasibility and the finished result.
Check the artwork first
Provide vector artwork or a clear high-resolution file and identify fine lines, small text, gradients or multiple colours. These elements can affect how different methods reproduce the design.
If the same logo will be used across different styles, confirm suitability for each fabric and position separately instead of applying the outcome from one sample to every garment.
Choose a method for the use case
Embroidery, screen printing and heat transfer offer different visual, texture and detail characteristics. The suitable choice should be assessed against the actual artwork, garment construction, expected laundering and team image.
For a logo on a pocket, stretch area or reflective area, provide a position drawing and dimensions so that feasibility can be considered without affecting the garment construction.
Confirm colour and placement
A logo colour reference and garment placement drawing reduce communication differences. Include any existing-teamwear or sponsor specifications that need to be followed.
The final colour, size and placement should be based on a mutually confirmed record. A website illustration should not be treated as a production standard before confirmation.
State quality requirements clearly
If particular washing, colour-fastness or other performance information is needed, describe the required conditions and ask whether a record exists for the relevant sample.
Retaining the artwork version, branding method, placement and confirmation date provides a clearer reference for repeat orders or future changes.
Branding-method decision table
Updated 1 September 2026. Production suitability must still be assessed against the artwork, fabric, placement and an approved sample.
